Subject: Firm/Harsh Rear Seat Ride (Install New Front and Rear Suspension Components)

This bulletin is being revised to update the GM Cadillac professional vehicle representative contact phone number and update Warranty Information. Please discard Corporate Bulletin Number 01-03-08-004A (Section 03 - Suspension).

Condition

Some customers may comment on a firm, harsh or rough rear seat ride condition that is most pronounced when the vehicle is operated on irregular type road surfaces.

Correction

Improved front and rear suspension components are now available. Perform the following repair procedure.

Repair Procedure

Important
Prior to performing the following repair, it is important to determine the curb weight of the vehicle in order to make the proper front spring selection.

1. Contact the GM Cadillac Professional Vehicle Representative at 248-808-0854 and provide the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) for vehicle weight information.

2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in the General Information sub-section SI (Document ID# 377101).

3. Remove all four wheel and tire assemblies. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in the Tires and Wheels sub-section SI (Document ID# 1317725).

4. Remove and discard the rear stabilizer shaft and associated components. Perform the following steps:





1. Remove and discard the rear stabilizer shaft link and associated components (bolt, washer, insulators, spacer and nut). Refer to Stabilizer Shaft Link Replacement FE7 in the Rear Suspension sub-section SI (Document ID# 736293).





2. Remove and discard the rear stabilizer shaft and associated components (bolts, insulators and brackets). Refer to Stabilizer Shaft Replacement FE7 in the Rear Suspension sub-section of SI (Document ID# 736254).





5. Remove the LH and RH rear leveling shock absorbers. Refer to Shock Absorber Replacement FE7 in the Rear Suspension sub-section of SI (Document ID# 486213).





6. Replace the rear spring (upper) jounce bumper and rear spring lower insulator. Refer to Coil Spring Replacement FE7 in the Rear Suspension sub-section of SI (Document ID# 736311).





7. Install the LH and RH rear leveling shock absorbers. Refer to Shock Absorber Replacement FE7 in the Rear Suspension sub-section of SI (Document ID# 486213).





8. Remove the LH and RH front strut assemblies. Refer to Strut Assembly Replacement FE7 in the Front Suspension sub-section of SI (Document ID# 680721).





9. Replace the springs and struts in the front strut assemblies. Refer to Strut, Strut Component and/or Spring Replacement in the Front Suspension sub-section of SI (Document ID# 1160719).





10. Replace the LH and RH #3 position, blue front suspension frame upper insulators (1). Refer to Frame Cushion or Insulator Replacement-Front in the Frame and Underbody sub-section of SI (Document ID# 681548).





11. Install the LH and RH front strut assemblies. Refer to Strut Assembly Replacement FE7 in the Front Suspension sub-section of SI (Document ID# 680721).

12. Install all four wheel and tire assemblies. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in the Tires and Wheels sub-section SI (Document ID# 1317725).

13. Lower the vehicle.

14. Check the front and rear wheel alignment. Refer to Measuring Wheel Alignment in the Wheel Alignment sub-section of SI (Document ID# 668446).

15. If necessary, adjust alignment angles to vehicles specifications. Refer to Wheel Alignment Specifications in the Wheel Alignment sub-section of SI (Document ID# 681336).
