Steering Shaft, Lower Bearing & Jacket - Assemble

Steering Shaft, Lower Bearing, and Jacket - Assemble - Off Vehicle




1. Install the steering column housing support assembly (3) with the dimmer switch rod (2) connected.





2. Apply lithium grease to the exposed shaft engagement areas.
3. Install the steering shaft assembly.





4. Install the steering shaft assembly.





5. Install the adapter and bearing assembly (1).

Notice: Refer to fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

6. Install the 2 hexagon washer head tapping screws (2).
Tighten the screws to 5.5 Nm (49 inch lbs.).





7. If there is no sensor present, install the bearing retainer (1).





8. Install the lower bearing seat (3).
9. Install the lower bearing spring (2).
10. Install the lower spring retainer (1).





11. Perform the following steps if the hi resolution steering wheel position sensor is present.
- Install the sensor adapter (1).
- Install the hi resolution steering wheel position sensor (2).
- Install the retainer sensor (3).
- Install the steering shaft seal (4).





12. If there is no sensor present, install the steering shaft seal (1).





13. Install the seal retaining bushing (2).
14. Install the lower spring retainer (1).
15. Install the ignition switch assembly.
16. Install the steering column housing assembly.
17. Install the hazard knob.
