Hood: Service and Repair



Hood Replacement

Removal Procedure


Notice: When removing body panels, apply tape to corners of panel and adjacent surfaces to help prevent paint damage.


Notice: When the hood is removed from the vehicle, do not stand the hood on the rear corners. Damage to the paint and sheet metal may occur.

1. Remove the hood insulator. Refer to Hood Insulator Replacement (Service and Repair) .
2. Remove the underhood lamp.
3. Disconnect the underhood lamp electrical harness from the inner hood panel.





Important: Mark the hinge locations on the underside of the hood panel (1) with a wax pencil in order to aid in the fore and aft repositioning of the hood when the hood is reinstalled.


4. Remove the 2 bolts on each side that retain the hinge to the hood.
5. Remove the 2 top assist rod clips.
6. With an assistant, remove the hood.
7. Remove the front grille and transfer parts. Refer to Grille Replacement (TL4) (Service and Repair) in Exterior Trim.



Installation Procedure





1. With the aid of an assistant, place the hood (1) into position so the hinges line up with the wax pencil marks you made during removal.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.

2. Install the 2 bolts on each side in order to retain the hinge to the hood.

Tighten the bolts to 11 N.m (97 lb in).

3. Install the 2 top assist rod clips.
4. Install the underhood lamp electrical harness to the inner hood panel.
5. Install the hood insulator. Refer to Hood Insulator Replacement (Service and Repair) .
6. Install the underhood lamp.
7. Install the grille. Refer to Grille Replacement (TL4) (Service and Repair) In Exterior Trim.
8. Adjust the hood, if needed. Refer toHood Adjustment (Fore/Aft) (Hood Adjustment (Fore/Aft))Hood Adjustment (Up/Down) (Hood Adjustment (Up/Down)) .
9. Remove the tape from the body panels and clean any tape residue remaining.
10. Touch up any exposed or unpainted surfaces after the hood replacement with body color paint.
