IP Retainer Replacement

Removal Procedure
Caution: Refer to SIR Handling Caution.

1. Disable the SIR. Refer to Disabling the SIR System.
2. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect Procedure.
3. Remove the center console. Refer to Console Replacement (w/o UV8) (Console Replacement (Without RPO Code UV8))Console Replacement (with UV8) (Console Replacement (With RPO Code UV8)).
4. Remove the fuel/rear compartment release switch. Refer to Rear Compartment Lid Switch Replacement.
5. Remove the headlamp switch. Refer to Headlamp Switch Replacement (LHD).
6. Remove the knee bolster. Refer to Knee Bolster Replacement (Service and Repair).
7. Remove the radio. Refer to Radio Replacement (U1R, UL6, UM5, UM9), Radio Replacement (U3Q, U3R, U3S).
8. Remove the IP cluster. Refer to Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) Replacement.
9. Remove the IP storage compartment. Refer to Compartment Replacement - IP (Instrument Panel Compartment - Replacement).
10. Remove the left IP accessory trim plate. Refer to Trim Plate Replacement - IP Accessory Left (LHD) (Instrument Panel (IP) - Accessory Trim Plate Replacement - Left Side (LHD)).
11. Remove the right IP accessory trim plate. Refer to Trim Plate Replacement - IP Accessory Right (LHD).
12. Remove the IP outer trim cover. Refer to Instrument Panel (IP) Outer Trim Cover Replacement.




13. Remove the IP screws (1) from each end of the IP retainer.




14. Remove the IP retainer bolt (1), located in the fuel door/ rear compartment opening.




15. Remove the HVAC duct/ IP retainer bolt (1), located below the HVAC duct, on the drivers side.




16. Remove the bolts (1) from both sides of the IP extension bracket (2).




17. Turn the ignition to the run position.
18. Depress the release button (1) on the park lock cable and pull the cable, in order to disconnect the park lock cable from the ignition switch.
The release button (1) is located on the bottom of the ignition switch at the 6 o'clock position.




19. Remove the steering column nuts. Refer to Steering Column Replacement.
20. Lower the steering column in order to allow clearance for the IP retainer to be removed.




21. Remove the remaining IP retainer bolts.
22. Partially remove the IP retainer (1) from the IP carrier (2).
Disconnect the inside air temperature sensor electrical connector.
23. Disconnect the ignition switch electrical connector.
24. Feed the wiring through the IP retainer openings as necessary.
25. Remove the IP retainer from the vehicle.
26. Remove the Inside air temperature sensor from the IP retainer. Refer to Inside Air Temperature Sensor Assembly Replacement (LHD).
27. Remove the Ignition switch from the IP retainer. Ignition Switch Replacement (LHD).



Installation Procedure





1. Install the Ignition switch to the IP retainer. Refer to Ignition Switch Replacement (LHD).
2. Install the Inside air temperature sensor to the IP retainer. Refer to Inside Air Temperature Sensor Assembly Replacement (LHD).
3. Partially install the IP retainer (1) to the carrier (2).
Guide the wiring through the IP retainer openings.
4. Connect the inside air temperature sensor electrical connector.
5. Connect the ignition switch electrical connectors.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice.

6. Install the IP retainer (1) bolts.

Tighten the bolts to 2N.m (18 lb in).





7. Turn the ignition to the run position.
8. Align the park lock cable tab (1) with the ignition switch.
9. Push the cable towards the ignition switch until an audible click is heard indicating the release button is engaged.




10. Install the steering column. Refer to Steering Column Replacement.




11. Install the IP retainer bolt (1) located in the opening for the fuel/rear compartment switch assembly.

Tighten the bolt to 2 N.m (18 lb in).





12. Install the HVAC duct/ IP retainer bolt (1), located below the HVAC duct, on the drivers side.

Tighten the bolt to 2 N.m (18 lb in).





13. Install the IP screw (1) at each end of the IP retainer.

Tighten the bolts to 2 N.m (18 lb in).

14. Install the fuel/rear compartment release switch. Refer to Rear Compartment Lid Switch Replacement.
15. Install the headlamp switch. Refer to Headlamp Switch Replacement (LHD.
16. Install the knee bolster. Refer to Knee Bolster Replacement (Service and Repair).
17. Install the radio. Refer to Radio Replacement (U1R, UL6, UM5, UM9), Radio Replacement (U3Q, U3R, U3S).
18. Install the IP cluster. Refer to Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) Replacement.
19. Install the IP storage compartment. Refer to Compartment Replacement - IP.
20. Install the left IP accessory trim plate. Refer to Trim Plate Replacement - IP Accessory Left (LHD) (Instrument Panel (IP) - Accessory Trim Plate Replacement - Left Side (LHD)).
21. Install the right IP accessory trim plate. Refer to Trim Plate Replacement - IP Accessory Right (LHD).
22. Install the IP outer trim cover. Refer to Instrument Panel (IP) Outer Trim Cover Replacement.
23. Install the center console. Refer to Console Replacement (w/o UV8), Console Replacement (with UV8).
24. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect Procedure.
25. Enable the SIR. Refer to Enabling the SIR System.
