Ignition Switch: Service and Repair



REMOVAL PROCEDURE

CAUTION: Refer to SIR Handling Caution in Service Precautions.




1. Apply the park brake.
2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
3. Disable the SIR system. Service and Repair
4. Remove the radio.
5. Remove the knee bolster.
6. Disconnect the ignition switch electrical.
7. Remove the lamp socket from the ignition switch.
8. Turn the ignition to the run position.
9. Depress the release button (1) on the park lock cable and pull the cable, in order to disconnect the park lock cable from the ignition switch. The release button (1) is located on the bottom of the ignition switch at the 6 o'clock position.




10. Look through the radio opening, and locate the ignition lock cylinder retaining tab (3).
The ignition lock cylinder retaining tab (3) is located on the right lower side of the ignition switch assembly (2).
11. Using a flat-bladed too, depress and hold the ignition lock cylinder retaining tab (3)
12. Remove the ignition lock cylinder from the IP.
13. Remove the ignition switch fasteners (1, 4).




14. Looking through the opening next to the steering column, remove the fastener (2) from the ignition switch (2)
15. Remove the ignition switch assembly from the IP.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE




1. Install the ignition switch (2) to the IP retainer.

NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

2. Through the opening next to the steering column, install the ignition switch fastener (1).

Tighten
Tighten the fastener to 2 Nm (18 lb in).




3. Through the radio opening, install the ignition switch fasteners (1, 4).

Tighten
Tighten the fastener to 2 Nm (18 lb in).




4. Install the park lock cable (1) to the ignition switch.
5. Connect the ignition switch electrical connectors.
6. Install the lamp socket to the ignition switch.




7. With the key installed in the ignition lock cylinder (1) insert the ignition lock cylinder (1) into the IP opening (2).
The lock cylinder retaining tab (3) will produce an audible click, when fully engaged.
8. Using light force, pull on the lock cylinder in order to ensure the lock cylinder is engaged.
9. Turn the ignition to LOCK, then remove the key.
10. Install the radio.
11. Install the knee bolster.
12. Enable the SIR system.
13. Connect the negative battery cable.
14. Inspect the ignition switch for proper operation in all positions.
15. Release the park brake.
