Removal and Replacement
Tire Pressure Monitor Sensor Replacement
Removal Procedure
Important: Before the tire is removed from the wheel care must be given in the following areas to ensure the TPM sensor is not damaged upon tire dismounting.
1. Place the cap and the valve on a dry clean surface after removal, the cap is aluminum and the valve is nickel plated to prevent corrosion and are not to be substituted with a cap or valve made of any other material.
2. When using the tire machine to separate the tire bead from the wheel, position the bead breaking fixture 90° from the valve stem to ensure it does not interfere with the sensor.
3. When removing the tire from the wheel, ensure a tolerance is maintained between the tire machine fixture, or irons, tire bead, and the sensor.
1. Raise the vehicle on a suitable support.
2. Remove the tire and wheel assembly.
3. Remove the tire from the wheel.
4. Remove the TPM sensor nut.
5. Remove the TPM sensor.
Installation Procedure
Important: Care must be given in the following areas to ensure the TPM sensor is not damaged upon sensor installation and tire mounting.
1. Position the new sensor with the air passage facing away from the wheel.
2. When torquing the sensor nut ensure the sensor body stays parallel to the inside wheel surface and does not rotate and contact the wheel surface.
3. When mounting the tire back on the wheel, ensure a tolerance is maintained between the tire machine, or irons, tire bead, and the sensor.
1. Clean any dirt or debris from the grommet sealing area.
2. Insert the sensor in the wheel hole.
Notice: Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.
3. Install the sensor nut.
Tighten
^ For Domestic vehicles, tighten the nut to 4 N.m (35 lb in).
^ For Export vehicles, tighten the nut to 12 N.m (106 lb in).
4. Install the tire on the wheel.
5. Install the tire and wheel.
6. Lower the vehicle.
7. Program the TPM sensors.
