Timing Cover: Service and Repair
Timing Belt Cover ReplacementRemoval Procedure
1. Remove the intake air resonator.
2. Remove the intake plenum.
3. Remove the drive belt tensioner.
4. Remove the water pump pulley bolts.
5. Remove the water pump pulley from the water pump.
6. Remove the power steering pump mounting bolts ONLY.
7. Remove the power steering pump from the accessory mounting bracket, and position aside.
8. Remove the timing belt cover bolts.
9. Remove the timing belt cover from the engine.
10. Clean and inspect the timing belt cover.
11. Inspect the timing belt for serviceability.
Installation Procedure
1. Position the timing belt cover to the engine.
Timing Belt Cover Bolts:
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
2. Install the timing belt cover bolts.
Tighten the timing belt cover bolts to 8 Nm (71 inch lbs.).
3. Position the power steering pump to the accessory mounting bracket.
4. Install the power steering pump mounting bolts.
Tighten the power steering pump mounting bolts in sequence to 35 Nm (26 ft. lbs.).
5. Position the water pump pulley to the water pump.
6. Install the water pump pulley bolts.
Tighten the water pump pulley bolts to 8 Nm (71 inch lbs.).
7. Install the drive belt tensioner.
8. Install the intake plenum.
9. Install the intake air resonator.
