Compressor Replacement (LHD)

COMPRESSOR REPLACEMENT (LHD)

TOOLS REQUIRED
J 39400-A Halogen Leak Detector

REMOVAL PROCEDURE
1. Recover the refrigerant.
2. Remove the drive belt.
3. Remove the air cleaner assembly.
4. Partially remove the intake air resonator and reposition for compressor clearance.




5. Remove the suction line bolt (1) at the compressor.
6. Remove the discharge line bolt (2) at the compressor.
7. Disconnect the A/C lines from the compressor.




8. Remove the nut (1) retaining the power steering line to the compressor stud.
9. Remove the clip and line from the compressor stud.




10. Remove the nut (1) retaining the power steering cooler line to the compressor stud.




11. Remove the clip (1) and line from the compressor stud (2).
12. Remove the front lower compressor stud (3).
13. Remove the front upper compressor stud.




14. Remove the rear compressor stud (1).
15. Disconnect the electrical connector from the compressor.
16. Rotate the compressor and remove from the vehicle.
17. Balance the compressor oil.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
1. Install the compressor.

IMPORTANT: Install the compressor with the top bolt in the compressor.

2. Connect the electrical connector.
3. Install all compressor mounting studs finger tight.




4. Tighten the compressor lower rear stud (1).

NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

Tighten
Tighten the stud to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).




5. Tighten the front lower compressor stud (1).

Tighten
Tighten the stud to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).

6. Tighten the front upper compressor stud (1).

Tighten
Tighten the stud to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).




7. Install the power steering line and bracket to lower compressor stud.
8. Install the power steering line nut (1).

Tighten
Tighten the nut to 8 N.m (71 lb in).

9. Install the power steering line and clamp to rear compressor stud.




10. Install the power steering line retainer nut (1).

Tighten
Tighten the nut to 8 N.m (71 lb in).




11. Connect the suction line to the compressor.
12. Connect the discharge line to the compressor
13. Install the compressor AC line bolts (1,2).

Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 9.8 N.m (87 lb in).

14. Reposition intake air resonator and install.
15. Install the air cleaner assembly.
16. Install the engine drive belt.
17. Evacuate and recharge the refrigerant system.
18. Leak test the fitting of the repaired or reinstalled component using the J 39400-A.
