Catalytic Converter Replacement - Left (LA3, LY9)

Removal Procedure

Caution: Refer to Exhaust Service Caution in Service Precautions.

Caution: Refer to Protective Goggles and Glove Caution in Service Precautions.

1. Raise and support the vehicle.





2. Disconnect the Heated oxygen sensor at the sensor pigtail.
3. Remove the heated oxygen sensor if replacement is necessary.





4. Remove the nuts securing the exhaust pipe to the left catalytic converter.





5. Remove the nuts securing the exhaust pipe to the right catalytic converter.

6. Notice: Refer to Flex Decoupler Notice in Service Precautions.

Position the exhaust system rearward, enough to allow the studs located in the rear of the catalytic converters to clear the exhaust pipe flange. Allow the exhaust system to rest on the floor panel tunnel brace.
7. Remove the left side catalytic converter seal. Do not reuse the seal.
8. Remove the right side catalytic converter gasket. Do not reuse the gasket.





9. Remove the 2 nuts attaching the catalytic converter to the catalytic converter hanger bracket.
10. Remove the 3 nuts attaching the catalytic converter to the exhaust manifold.
11. Remove the catalytic converter and the seal. Do not reuse the seal.

Installation Procedure





1. Insert a NEW seal into the seal grove of the catalytic converter.

2. Notice: Refer to Exhaust System Inspection Notice in Service Precautions.

Position the catalytic converter to the exhaust manifold and catalytic converter hanger bracket.

3. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

Install the 3 nuts attaching the catalytic converter to the exhaust manifold.
Tighten the exhaust manifold pipe nuts to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.).
4. Install the 2 nuts attaching the catalytic converter to the catalytic converter hanger bracket.
Tighten the catalytic converter hanger bracket nuts to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.).





5. Place a NEW seal on the left side catalytic converter flange.
6. Place a NEW gasket over the right side catalytic converter studs.
7. Align the exhaust pipe flanges with the studs located in the rear of the catalytic converters.
8. Install the 2 nuts securing the exhaust pipe to the left catalytic converter.
Tighten the catalytic converter nuts to 15 Nm (11 ft. lbs.).






9. Notice: Refer to Flex Decoupler Notice in Service Precautions.

Install the 2 nuts securing the exhaust pipe to the right catalytic converter.
Tighten the catalytic converter nuts to 15 Nm (11 ft. lbs.).
10. Install the heated oxygen sensor if previously removed.





11. Connect the Heated oxygen sensor at the sensor pigtail.
12. Lower the vehicle.
