Compressor Replacement (LHD)

COMPRESSOR REPLACEMENT (LHD)

TOOLS REQUIRED
J 39400-A Halogen Leak Detector

REMOVAL PROCEDURE
1. Recover the refrigerant.
2. Remove the drive belt.
3. Remove the air cleaner assembly.
4. Remove the intake air resonator and reposition for compressor clearance.
5. Raise the vehicle.
6. Remove the front air deflector.




7. Remove the compressor mounting bolt (3) from the compressor.
8. Lower the vehicle.
9. Loosen the compressor mounting bolts (1) until the threads are disengaged.




10. Remove the suction line bolt at the compressor.
11. Disconnect the suction line from the compressor.
12. Remove and discard the O-ring seals.




13. Remove the discharge line bolt at the compressor.
14. Disconnect the discharge line from the compressor.
15. Remove and discard the O-ring seals.




16. Disconnect the electrical connector (2) from the compressor.
17. Rotate the compressor. Remove the compressor from the vehicle.

IMPORTANT: While removing the compressor from the vehicle, the power steering line may need to be flexed.

18. Remove the compressor mounting bolts from the compressor.
19. If you are replacing the compressor, balance the compressor oil.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE




1. Partially install the compressor.

NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

2. Install the compressor mounting bolts (1) finger tight.

Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).




3. Install the new O-ring seals to the line fittings.
4. Install the suction line to the compressor.
5. Install the suction line bolt to the compressor

Tighten
Tighten the nut to 9.8 N.m (87 lb in).




6. Install the new O-ring seals to the line fittings.
7. Install the discharge line to the compressor.
8. Install the discharge line bolt to the compressor.

Tighten
Tighten the nut to 9.8 N.m (87 lb in).




9. Connect the electrical connector (2).
10. Raise the vehicle.
11. Install the compressor mounting stud (3) finger tight.

Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).

12. Install the front air deflector.
13. Lower the vehicle.
14. Reposition intake air resonator and install.
15. Install the air cleaner assembly.
16. Install the engine drive belt.
17. Evacuate and recharge the refrigerant system.
18. Leak test the fitting of the repaired or reinstalled component using the J 39400-A.
