Wheel Bearing/Hub Replacement - Rear^ Tools Required
- J 45859 Axle Remover, or equivalent
Removal Procedure
1. Raise and support the vehicle.
2. Remove the tire and wheel.
3. Remove the rear brake rotor.
4. Remove and discard the wheel drive shaft nut.
5. Disconnect the ABS sensor electrical connector.
6. Disconnect the ABS sensor electrical connector from the backing plate.
7. Remove the parking brake cable bracket mounting bolts from the knuckle.
8. Remove the parking brake cable bracket from the knuckle.
9. Install J 45859 or equivalent, to the wheel bearing/hub.
10. Using J 45859 or equivalent, disengage the wheel drive shaft from the wheel bearing/hub.
11. Remove the wheel bearing/hub mounting bolts.
12. Remove the wheel bearing/hub and backing plate from the knuckle.
Important: The wheel hub remover may be needed in order to fully disengage the wheel bearing/hub from the drive axle.
13. Remove J 45859 or equivalent, from the wheel bearing/hub.
Installation Procedure
1. Install the wheel bearing/hub and backing plate to the knuckle.
2. Install the wheel bearing/hub mounting bolts.
Tighten the bolts to 125 Nm (92 ft. lbs.).
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
3. Install the parking brake cable bracket to the knuckle.
4. Install the parking brake cable bracket mounting bolts to the knuckle.
Tighten the bolts to 60 Nm (44 ft. lbs.).
5. Connect the ABS sensor electrical connector to the backing plate.
6. Connect the ABS sensor electrical connector.
7. Install a new wheel drive shaft nut.
Tighten the nut to 160 Nm (118 ft. lbs.).
8. Install the brake rotor.
9. Install the tire and wheel.
10. Lower the vehicle.
