Electronic Brake Control Module: Service and Repair
Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM) Replacement (CTS)Removal Procedure
1. Notice: To prevent equipment damage, never connect or disconnect the wiring harness connection from the EBCM with the ignition switch in the ON position.
Turn OFF the ignition.
2. Important: The area around the Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM) must be free from loose dirt to prevent contamination of dissembled ABS components.
Thoroughly clean all of the contaminants from and around the EBCM assembly.
3. Important: It is not necessary to drain the coolant or disconnect the coolant lines when moving the coolant bypass valve.
Disconnect the coolant bypass valve from the radiator and position out of the way.
4. Press the retainer in the EBCM electrical connector (1).
5. Rotate the EBCM connector tab (2) to the unlocked position.
6. Disconnect the EBCM electrical connector (1) from the EBCM (3) and position out of the way.
7. Remove and discard the 2 upper EBCM to brake pressure modulator valve (BPMV) screws (1).
8. Raise and suitably support the vehicle.
9. Remove the front air deflector.
10. Remove and discard the 2 lower EBCM to brake pressure modulator valve (BPMV) screws (1).
11. Lower the vehicle.
12. Clean the surface of the EBCM/BPMV assembly.
13. Important: The EBCM cannot be repaired. If faulty, the unit must be replaced.
Separate the EBCM (1) from the BPMV (2).
Installation Procedure
1. Clean the seal surface of the BPMV.
2. Install the EBCM (1) to the BPMV (2).
3. Make sure that the internal pump motor connector (3) is installed into the new EBCM (1) prior to EBCM replacement.
4. Important: Use New EBCM/BPMV screws after separating the EBCM from the BPMV.
Install the 2 upper NEW EBCM to BPMV screws.
5. Raise and suitably support the vehicle.
6. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
Install the 2 lower NEW EBCM to BPMV screws.
Tighten the (4) NEW EBCM to BPMV screws in sequence (1-4) to 5 Nm (44 inch lbs.).
7. Install the front air deflector.
8. Lower the vehicle.
9. Notice: To prevent equipment damage, never connect or disconnect the wiring harness connection from the EBCM with the ignition switch in the ON position.
Connect the EBCM electrical connector (1) to the EBCM (3).
10. Rotate the EBCM connector tab (2) to the locked position.
11. Connect the coolant bypass valve to the radiator.
12. Use the scan tool in order to clear the DTCs.
13. Perform the auto bleed procedure.
14. If installing a new EBCM it is necessary to program the EBCM. Please contact your local dealer regarding this procedure. .
15. Perform the ABS Diagnostic System Check.
16. Recalibrate the brake pedal position sensor.
