1. Inspect both inner and outer output shaft bearings for the following:
^ Damaged cage
^ Roller pitted
2. Use J5590 to remove the outer output shaft bearing if it is damaged.
3. Place J45131-1 onto the inner output shaft bearing (26). Place the case extension on J45131-2.
4. Insert J7079-2 into J45131-1 and remove the inner output shaft bearing (26).
5. Using J44762 press the outer output shaft bearing (28) with numbers on bearing facing up.
6. Using J44762 press the inner output shaft bearing (26) with numbers on bearings facing up.
7. Rotate the transmission 90 degrees.
8. Measure from the bottom to the face of the output shaft. Record this as dimension B. Refer to the End Play Specifications (5L40-E) or End Play Specifications (5L50-E) to determine the correct washer size.
9. Install the input and reaction carrier washer (22).
10. Install the input and reaction carrier thrust bearing (23) onto the extension housing.
11. Install the extension housing gasket (25) onto the extension housing (27).
12. Install the extension housing (27) onto the case.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
13. Install the extension housing bolts (35).
Tighten the extension housing bolts to 22 Nm (16 ft. lbs.).
Important: Install the seal onto the tool before installing into the case to prevent damage to the seal.
14. Using J44765 install the prop shaft flange seal (29).
