Installing Engine Support Fixture

Engine Support Fixture

Tools Required

^ J41803 Engine Support Fixture Adapters

Installation Procedure






1. Important: The following procedure is for supporting the engine in the vehicle. The engine support hooks that are part of the J41803 is for supporting the engine in the vehicle only. The J41798 are used for lifting the engine once the engine is removed. Installation instructions for the J41798 are included at the end of this procedure.

Remove the fuel injector sight shield.
2. Install an engine support hook from the J41803 to the front of the right cylinder head in the location shown. Follow the tool instructions for the proper bolt size and torque.





3. Remove the coil assembly from the left cylinder head.
4. Install the remaining engine support hook from the J41803 to the left cylinder head in the location shown. Place washers between the hook and the cylinder head to allow for clearance to the rocker cover. Ensure that the bolt used is long enough to allow for proper thread engagement.





5. Assemble the J28467-501 (1) to each end of the J28467-518 (2) main support beam.





6. Place the rail support and beam support assembly on top of both the left and right fender lips, over the left cylinder head support hook.





7. Install the round tube of the front support assembly J28467-4A through the large hole in the radiator shelf tube J28467-2A.
8. Remove the upper tie bar cover.
9. Locate the J28467-4A front support assembly to the upper tie bar.
10. Install the J28467-9 7/16 inch x 2.0 inch quick-release pin through the top hole in the J28467-4A front support assembly.





11. Attach the radiator shelf tube (2) to the bottom of the main support beam (1) using the J28467-1A cross bracket assembly. Ensure that the radiator shelf tube is inline with the right engine support hook.
12. Install the lift hook assembly J28467-7A (3) to the radiator shelf tube (2). Install the lift hook to the right cylinder head support hook.
13. Install the lift hook assembly J28467-7A (4) to the main support beam (1) over the left cylinder head support hook. Install the lift hook to the left cylinder head support hook.
14. Hand tighten the lift hook (3, 4) wing nuts in order to remove all slack from the engine support fixture.
15. The engine is now supported in the vehicle to perform repairs that require front frame removal.





16. The J41798 are used to lift the engine once the engine is removed from the vehicle.
17. Remove the right bank coil assembly.
18. Remove the 2 right rear cylinder spark plug wires.
19. Remove the negative battery cable from the right rear cylinder head.
20. Install the J41798-1 engine lift bracket to the right cylinder head following the directions found on the tool.





21. Remove the left bank coil assembly.
22. Remove the 2 front left cylinder spark plug wires.
23. Install the J41798-2 engine lift bracket to the left cylinder head following the directions found on the tool.

Removal Procedure





1. Unscrew the lift hooks (3, 4) and remove them from the support hooks. Remove the lift hooks from the tube assemblies (1, 2).
2. Remove the front tube and support assembly (2, 5) from the main support beam (1).
3. Remove the main support beam assembly.
4. Remove the support hooks from the cylinder heads.
5. Install the coil assembly to the left cylinder head.
6. Install the fuel injector sight shield.
