Engine Control Module: Service and Repair

POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM) REPLACEMENT

REMOVAL PROCEDURE

NOTE: Turn the ignition OFF when installing or removing the PCM connectors and disconnecting or reconnecting the power to the PCM (battery cable, PCM pigtail, PCM fuse, jumper cables, etc.) in order to prevent internal PCM damage.

1. Record the Engine Oil Life Index if applicable.
2. Turn OFF the ignition.
3. Disconnect the battery negative cable.




4. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
5. Remove the front air deflector.




6. Remove the bolt (1) from the powertrain control module (PCM) housing cover.
7. Push the cover outboard to release the locking tab.
8. Swing the cover open and remove the cover from the vehicle.




9. Remove the PCM from the housing.
10. Loosen the screws (1) at the PCM electrical connectors.
11. Disconnect the PCM electrical connectors.
12. Remove the PCM from the vehicle.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE




1. Install the PCM to the vehicle.
2. Install the PCM wiring harness.

NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

3. Tighten the PCM electrical connector screws (1).

Tighten
Tighten the PCM electrical connector bolts to 8 N.m (71 lb in).

4. Install the PCM to the PCM housing.




5. Install the PCM housing cover.
6. Install the bolt (1) to the PCM cover housing.

Tighten
Tighten the PCM housing cover bolt to 10 N.m (89 lb in).




7. Install the front air deflector.
8. Lower the vehicle.
9. Connect the battery negative cable.
10. Program the PCM. Refer to Service Programming System (SPS) in Programming. Programming and Relearning
