Inflatable Side Impact Module Replacement - Rear

REMOVAL PROCEDURE




1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling Zone 10 or SIR Disabling and Enabling Zone 12.

CAUTION:
- Refer to SIR Caution in Service Precautions.
- Refer to SIR Inflator Module Handling and Storage Caution in Service Precautions.
- Following the deployment of a side impact air bag, inspect the following parts for damage. Replace these parts if necessary:
- The seat cushion frame
- The seat recliner, if equipped
- The seat adjuster
- The seat back frame
Failure to do so may cause future personal injury.


1. Remove the rear seat back.




2. Remove the fasteners (4) from the rear side inflator module (5).
3. Remove the rear side inflator module.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE




1. Install new rear side inflator module (5) to the body panel (1).
2. Install the mounting fasteners (4) to the rear side inflator module.

NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

IMPORTANT: When reinstalling or replacing rear side inflator module, apply thread locking compound GM P/N 12345493 (Canadian P/N 10953488) or equivalent to the threads of the studs.

Tighten
Tighten the fasteners to 9 N.m (80 lb in).

3. Connect the wiring harness (3) from the rear side inflator module to the vehicle wiring harness (2).
4. Install the CPA to the rear side air bag connector (2,3).
5. Install the retaining clip to the air bag connector assembly.




6. Install the rear seat back.
8. Fully deploy the module before disposal. If the module was replaced under warranty, fully deploy and dispose of the module after the required retention period. Refer to Inflator Module Handling and Scrapping.
