Wheel Bearing/Hub Replacement - Front

Tools Required
- J28733-B Wheel Hub Remover

Removal Procedure
1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
2. Remove the wheel and tire.





3. Insert a drift punch (1) or screwdriver into the caliper and rotor to prevent the rotor from turning and remove the wheel drive shaft nut.
4. Remove the brake rotor.





5. Disconnect the front wheel speed sensor electrical connector and unclip from the dust shield.
6. Vehicle equipped with brake wear indicator sensor, disconnect and unclip from the dust shield.





7. Remove the wheel bearing and hub retaining bolts and dust shield.

Important: The wheel bearing and hub are replaced only as an assembly.





8. Using J28733-B separate the wheel bearing and hub from the drive axle.
9. Remove the wheel bearing and hub and dust shield.

Installation Procedure

Important: Clean rust and foreign material from the knuckle mounting face, bore and chamber to allow for proper seating of the bearing and knuckle.





1. Install the wheel bearing and hub and dust shield to the drive axle.
- Apply a light coating of grease to the steering knuckle bore.
- Do not handle the wheel bearing and hub assembly by the ABS sensor wire.

2. Install a new drive axle nut and draw hub and bearing onto the axle.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

3. Install the wheel bearing and hub retaining bolt.
Tighten the wheel bearing and hub retaining bolts to 130 Nm (95 lb ft).





4. Connect the front wheel speed sensor electrical connector and clip to the dust shield.
5. Vehicles equipped with brake wear indicators connect the sensor electrical wire connector and clip.
6. Install the brake rotor.





7. Insert a drift punch (1) or screwdriver into the caliper and rotor to prevent the rotor from fuming.
Tighten the wheel drive shaft nut to 145 Nm (107 lb ft).
8. Install the tire and wheel.
9. Lower the vehicle.
