Generator Cable Replacement


Removal Procedure


Important:

- Always use replacement cables that are of the same type, diameter and length of the cables that you are replacing.

- Always route the replacement cable the same way as the original cable.


1. Disconnect the battery negative cable.

2. Remove the upper filler panel.

3. Remove the intake manifold.






4. Remove the nut (1) securing the battery positive cable to the remote positive terminal.






5. Disconnect the starter motor BAT terminal wire from the starter.






6. Reposit~ion the protective boot from the generator output BAT terminal for access.

7. Remove the generator output BAT terminal nut and disconnect the positive lead from the generator.

8. Disconnect the cable harness clips from the front of the camshaft cover.

9. Remove the generator cable from the vehicle.


Installation Procedure

1. Position the generator cable to the engine.






Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.


2. Connect the battery positive lead and install the generator output BAT terminal nut.

Tighten the generator output BAT terminal nut to 12.5 N.m. (111 lb in).


3. Press the protective boot on to the generator output BAT terminal.

4. Connect the cable harness clips to the front of the camshaft cover.






5. Connect the starter motor BAT terminal wire.

Tighten the battery positive cable to starter terminal nut to 10 N.m. (89 lb in).






6. Install the nut (1) securing the battery positive cable to the remote positive terminal.

Tighten the battery positive cable to remote positive terminal nut to 12 N.m. (106 lb in).

7. Install the intake manifold.

8. Install the upper filler panel.

9. Connect the battery negative cable.
