Steering Column Trim Covers

Steering Column Trim Covers Replacement

Removal Procedure

Caution: Refer to SIR Caution in Service Precautions.

1. Disable the SIR system.
2. Remove the steering column.





3. Remove the retaining screws (2) from the lower steering column trim cover.
4. Remove the lower trim cover (1) from the steering column closeout shroud.





5. Remove the tie straps (2) from the steering column wiring harness.





6. Disconnect the module electrical connectors (2).





7. Open the lower wiring harness shield and remove the steering column wiring harness.

Note: the direction that the wiring harness is routed for installation.





8. Remove the tilt and telescope switch from the lower steering column trim cover.





9. Remove the retaining screw from the upper steering column trim cover.
10. Remove the upper trim cover (1) and closeout shroud from the steering column.
11. Remove the closeout shroud from the upper steering column trim cover.

Installation Procedure
1. Install the closeout shroud to the upper steering column trim cover.





2. Install the upper trim cover (1) and closeout shroud to the steering column.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

3. Install the retaining screw (2) to the upper steering column trim cover.
Tighten the screw to 1.5 Nm (13 inch lbs.).





4. Install the tilt and telescope switch (2) to the lower steering column trim cover.





5. Install the wiring harness (2) to the lower wiring harness shield.





6. Connect the electrical connectors (2) to the module.





7. Install the tie straps (2) to the steering column wiring harness.





8. Install the lower trim cover (1) to the steering column closeout shroud and to the upper trim cover.
Ensure that the tabs (2) on the lower trim cover engage with the tabs on the upper trim cover. Snap the tabs together.
9. Install the retaining screws to the lower steering column trim cover (2).
Tighten the screws to 3.5 Nm (31 inch lbs.).
10. Install the steering column.
11. Enable the SIR system.
