Seat Back Frame Replacement - Front

Tools Required

J 38778 Trim Pad Clip Remover.


Removal Procedure

Caution: Refer to SIR Caution.
1. Remove the front bucket seat. Refer to Seat Replacement - Front Bucket (Seat Replacement - Front Bucket).




2. Remove the seat back trim finish cover. Refer to Seat Back Cover and Pad Replacement - Front (Seat Back Cover and Pad Replacement - Front).




3. Remove the upper front seat belt post cover.
4. Remove the two seat belt post finish cover fasteners.
Important: Use the J 38778 in order to disengage the retainer on the seat belt tower finish cover.


Disengage the retainer located at the center of the seat belt tower finish cover.
5. Remove the seat belt post finish cover.
6. Remove the shoulder belt retractor. Refer to Seat Belt Replacement - Driver or Passenger.
7. Remove the seat back cover and pad. Refer to Seat Back Cover and Pad Replacement - Front (Seat Back Cover and Pad Replacement - Front).




8. Disconnect the lumber electrical connector.
9. Disconnect the side impact air bag electrical connector.




10. Disconnect the electrical connectors for the heated seat, if equipped with KA1.
11. Disconnect the air lines, if equipped with adaptive lumbar.




12. Remove the seat back cover J channels on the left and the right sides and the bottom in order to access 4 fasteners (2 on the left side and 2 fasteners on the right side.




13. Remove the 4 fasteners retaining the seat back frame to the recliner.
14. Lift straight up on the seat back frame in order to disengage the seat back frame from the lower recliner assembly.



Installation Procedure





1. Slide the seat back straight down into recliner assembly and align the bolt holes.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice.

2. Install 4 seat back frame bolts.

Tighten the seat back frame bolts to 28 N.m (21 lb ft).





3. Connect the heated seat electrical connectors, if equipped with KA1.
4. Connect the air lines for the adaptive lumbar, if equipped with AC9.




5. Connect the lumbar electrical connector.
6. Connect the side impact air bag electrical connector.
7. Install the seat back cover and pad. Refer to Seat Back Cover and Pad Replacement - Front (Seat Back Cover and Pad Replacement - Front).
8. Install the front seat belt shoulder retractor. Refer to Seat Belt Replacement - Driver or Passenger.




9. Install the rear seat belt post finish cover.
10. Install the rear seat belt post finish cover fasteners.

Tighten the fasteners fully driven, seated, but not stripped.

11. Install the seat back trim cover. Refer to Seat Back Panel Replacement - Front (Seat Back Panel Replacement - Front).
12. Install the front bucket seat into the vehicle. Refer to Seat Replacement - Front Bucket (Seat Replacement - Front Bucket).
