Headlamp: Service and Repair

HEADLAMP ASSEMBLY OR HEADLAMP BULB AND/OR CORNERING, SIDEMARKER, PARK, TURN SIGNAL BULB REPLACEMENT

REMOVAL PROCEDURE

CAUTION: The high intensity discharge system produces high voltage and current. To reduce the risk of severe shocks and burns:
- Never open the high intensity discharge system ballast or the arc tube assembly starter.
- Never probe between the high intensity discharge system ballast output connector and the arc tube assembly.

1. Open the hood.




2. Remove the connector position assurance (CPA) (2) from the electrical connector (1) to the headlamp wiring harness.
3. Disconnect the electrical connector (1) from the headlamp wiring harness.
4. Remove the front fascia close-out panel.




5. Remove the nuts (2) attaching the headlamp assembly (1) to the front wheelhouse (3).
6. Remove the headlamp (1) from the wheelhouse (3).




7. Remove the park/turn bulb/socket by rotating the socket counterclockwise (1).




8. Remove the bulb from the socket.




9. Remove the side marker bulb/socket by rotating the socket counterclockwise (1).




10. Remove the bulb from the socket.




11. Remove the position bulb/socket by rotating the socket counterclockwise.




12. Remove the bulb from the socket.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE




1. Install the bulb to the socket.




2. Rotate the park/turn bulb/socket clockwise (1) until the bulb/socket is fully seated.




3. Install the bulb to the socket.




4. Rotate the side marker bulb/socket clockwise (1) until the bulb/socket is fully seated.




5. Install the bulb to the socket.




6. Rotate the position bulb/socket clockwise until the bulb/socket is fully seated.




7. Install the headlamp wiring harness to the wheelhouse.

IMPORTANT: Properly install the rubber grommet (1) to the headlamp wiring harness and seal the grommet to the wheelhouse in order to avoid chafing of the wiring harness.




8. Position the headlamp (1) to the wheelhouse (3).
9. Install the nuts (2) attaching the headlamp (1) to the front wheelhouse (3).

NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

Tighten the nuts to 6 N.m (53 lb in).

10. Connect the electrical connector (1) to the headlamp wiring harness.
11. Install the CPA (2) to the headlamp electrical connector (1).
12. Install the front fascia closeout panel.
13. Inspect the headlamp for proper operation and aim if required.
14. Close the hood.
