Scan Tool Data Definitions - Variable Effort Steering (VES)
Scan Tool Data DefinitionsIgnition Voltage Signal: The scan tool displays 0 - 17 volts. The amount of ignition voltage at the EBCM.
Steering Position Sensor: The scan tool displays -720 to 720 degrees. The actual position of the steering wheel in degrees from center. Negative numbers represent steering wheel rotation to the left, positive numbers indicate steering wheel rotation to the right, with 0 degrees representing the steering wheel in the centered position.
Switched System Battery Voltage Signal: The scan tool 0 - 17 volts. The level of internal El3CM voltage available to the VES actuator when the ABS relay is energized.
Vehicle Speed: The scan tool displays 0 - 255 km/h (0 - 159 mph). The actual speed of the vehicle represented as an average of the wheel speed sensors.
VES Actuator Commanded: The scan tool displays -3.00 to 3.00 amps. The amount of current the El3CM is commanding to the VES actuator.
VES Failed: The scan tool displays Yes or No. Yes indicates a malfunction has been detected within the VES system. No indicates the VES system is operating to specification.
VES Actuator Feedback: The scan tool displays -3.00 to 3.00 amps. The amount of current returning from the VES actuator to the EBCM.
