Exhaust System: Service and Repair



Exhaust System Replacement (LY7)
Removal Procedure

Caution: Refer to Exhaust Service Caution in Service Precautions.

Caution: Refer to Protective Goggles and Glove Caution in Service Precautions.





1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
2. Disconnect the left and right bank 2 heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) electrical connectors (bank 1 shown, bank 2 similar).
3. Remove the HO2S wiring harnesses from the transmission case.





4. Remove the exhaust pipe nuts and separate the exhaust system from the catalytic converters.





5. Remove the left muffler front hanger from the frame hanger rod.





6. Remove the right muffler front hanger from the frame hanger rod.





7. Remove the mufflers from the muffler hanger rods.





8. Remove the floor panel tunnel brace bolts.
9. Remove the floor panel tunnel brace from the floor panel.





10. With the aid of an assistant, lower the exhaust system.
11. Inspect and replace the exhaust system to catalytic converter seals if excessive wear or damage is noticed.





12. Remove the muffler rear hangers (2) from the muffler(s).
13. Remove the HO2S from the exhaust system.

Installation Procedure





1. Install the HO2S to the exhaust system.
2. Install the muffler rear hangers (2) to the muffler(s).





3. With the aid of an assistant, raise the exhaust system into position.

Notice: Refer to Exhaust System Inspection Notice in Service Precautions.

Notice: Refer to Flex Decoupler Notice in Service Precautions.

4. Install the exhaust system (muffler) nuts.





5. Install the mufflers to the muffler rear hangers.





6. Install the right muffler front hanger to the frame hanger rod.





7. Install the left muffler front hanger to the frame hanger rod.





8. Install the exhaust pipe nuts.
Tighten the nuts to 22 Nm (16 ft. lbs.).

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.






9. Install the floor panel tunnel brace to the floor panel.
10. Install the floor panel tunnel brace bolts.
Tighten the floor panel tunnel brace bolts to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.).





11. Connect the left and right bank 2 HO2S electrical connectors (bank 1 shown, bank 2 similar).
12. Install the HO2S wiring harnesses to the transmission case.
13. Lower the vehicle.
