Engine Controls - Rough/Unstable Idle With A/C ON

Bulletin No.: 05-06-04-054

Date: August 30, 2005

TECHNICAL

Subject:
Rough, Unstable or Incorrect Idle with Air Conditioning (A/C) Manually Turned On for First Minute of Run Time (Reprogram Engine Control Module [ECM])

Models:
2006 Cadillac CTS, SRX

with 2.8L or 3.6L High Feature V6 Engine (VINs T, 7 - RPOs LP1, LY7)

Built Prior To VIN Breakpoints 60112842 (CTS) and 60113306 (SRX)

Condition

Some customers may comment that when the engine is started cold and the A/C is manually turned on during the first minute of run time, the engine will have a rough, unstable or incorrect idle.

Cause

Engineering has identified a concern with the ECM software.

Correction

Important:
Refer to and print a copy of the Service Programming System (SPS) using the appropriate Service Information (SI) procedures to assist in programming the ECM.

Ensure That the Following Conditions Are Met Before Programming the ECM

^ There are no charging system concerns.

^ The battery voltage is between 12-16 volts. If a battery charger is needed when programming the ECM, dealers should use either a jumper box or, jumper cables to a known good battery. Dealers can also use a battery charger designed for using during programming, such as the Midtronic PSC chargers. For further information on the Midtronic PSC chargers, refer to Tech Link article on Battery Charger for Programming (July 2005, Volume 7, Number 07).

^ Turn off or disable any system that may put a load on the vehicle's battery.

^ After programming the ECM, clear all DTCs out of all modules.

An ECM calibration is now available to address this concern. Reflash the ECM with this latest calibration if the above concern is encountered. The new calibration will be available to dealerships on 08/20/2005 as part of TIS 2000 Incremental Satellite Update 8.5. For dealerships that use CDs, they will be mailed on 08/26/2005.

As always, make sure your TECH 2(R) is updated with the latest software version. To determine which calibration is correct for the 2006 Cadillac CTS and SRX, obtain the part number currently in the ECM using a TECH 2(R). Compare the part number to that is shown and reprogram the ECM with the corresponding new calibration. For the 2006 Cadillac CTS and SRX, the application determines the correct calibration.
