DTC B0968
DTC DESCRIPTOR
DTC B0968 00
Parking Aid Indicator Circuit
DIAGNOSTIC FAULT INFORMATION
IMPORTANT: Always perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle prior to using this diagnostic procedure. Testing and Inspection
CIRCUIT/SYSTEM DESCRIPTION
The object alarm detection system senses how close the vehicle is to an object. The distance is determined by the 4 ultrasonic sensors located in the rear and front (if equipped) bumpers. The object detection system will notify the driver when backing up or moving forward while parking at speeds less than 8 km/h (5 mph), which make parking easier and helps you avoid colliding with objects such as parked vehicles. The object detection system will use front and rear display indicators and the radio speakers for notification.
CONDITIONS FOR RUNNING THE DTC
Ignition voltage is between 9-16 volts.
CONDITIONS FOR SETTING THE DTC
The following conditions must exist for 300 milliseconds:
- The front and rear object alarm module has detected that one of the three the indicator control circuits for the front (if equipped) display is determined to be open or shorted.
- The front and rear object alarm module has detected that one of the three indicator control circuits for the rear display is determined to be open or shorted.
ACTION TAKEN WHEN THE DTC SETS
- The object alarm module sets a DTC.
- The object alarm module commands ON the information center telltale red indicator and disable the object detection system.
- The object alarm module will send a serial data communication message to the instrument panel (I/P) to scroll SERVICE PARK ASSIST message on the driver information center (DIC), and the chime will sound.
CIRCUIT/SYSTEM TESTING
IMPORTANT: When removing connectors inspect for damage or corrosion. Damage or corrosion in the following requires repair or replacement of the affected component/connector.
- The information center telltale assembly indicator (front)
- The information center telltale assembly indicator (rear)
- The front and rear object alarm module
- The front information center telltale assembly indicator wiring harness connector
- The rear information center telltale assembly indicator wiring harness connector
- The front and rear object alarm module wiring harness connector
1. Ignition ON, use the scan tool and perform the LED Test in Special Functions. The scan tool will command each indicator to turn ON then proceed to the next one. Verify that both front and rear information center telltale indicators turns ON.
- If none of the front or rear information center telltale indicators turn ON refer to Information Center Telltale Malfunction. Information Center Telltale Malfunction
2. Remove the front and rear object alarm module connector.
3. The front information center telltale indicator does not turn ON then ground each indicator control circuit on the front and rear object alarm module connector. Verify each indicator on the front information center telltale turns ON.
- If one or all the indicators on the front information center telltale does turn ON then test all indicator control circuits between information center telltale assembly indicator connector and the front and rear object alarm module for a short to voltage or an open.
- If all circuits test normal then replace the front information center telltale display.
4. The rear information center telltale does turn ON then remove the rear information center telltale.
5. Test all the indicator circuits between information center telltale assembly indicator connector and the front and rear object alarm module for a short to voltage or an open. Verify that a short to voltage or an open does not exist.
- If any of the above conditions are found make the appropriate repair.
6. Reconnect the front and rear object alarm module connector.
7. Ignition ON, connect a test lamp between the telltale assembly supply voltage circuit and each indicator control circuit on the rear information center telltale indicator connector one at a time. With the scan tool perform the LED Test. Verify that each indicator illuminate the test lamp.
- If the test lamp does not illuminate replace the front and rear object alarm module.
8. Each indicator illuminate the test lamp then replace the information center telltale assembly replacement (rear). After replacement refer to Repair Verification.
REPAIR INSTRUCTIONS
- Information Center Telltale Assembly Replacement for Information Center Telltale Assembly Replacement (Front)
- Information Center Telltale Assembly Replacement for Information Center Telltale Assembly Replacement (Rear)
- Control Module References for Front and Rear Object Alarm Module replacement, setup, and programming
REPAIR VERIFICATION
Reconnect all components. Ignition ON, use the scan tool to clear the DTCs then recheck for DTCs. Verify DTC B0968 does not set.
- If DTC B0968 was current replace the front and rear object alarm module.
