Fuel Tank Draining

FUEL TANK DRAINING PROCEDURE

TOOLS REQUIRED
- J 36850 Transjel Lubricant
- J 42960-2 Fuel Flapper Door Holder
- J 45004 Fuel Drain Hose

CAUTION:
- Refer to Gasoline/Gasoline Vapors Caution in Service Precautions.
- Never drain or store fuel in an open container. Always use an approved fuel storage container in order to reduce the chance of fire or explosion.
- Place a dry chemical (Class B) fire extinguisher nearby before performing any on-vehicle service procedures. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury.

NOTE: Drain the fuel tank with a hose which has a 13 mm (0.5 in) or smaller diameter in order to prevent the drain hose from getting stuck inside the fuel tank filler neck pipe check valve. Damage to the check valve may result.

1. Remove the fuel fill cap (1)

2. Install the J 42960-2 into the fuel fill pipe in order to hold the door open.
3. Insert the J 45004 into the fuel tank until the hose reaches the bottom of the fuel tank.

IMPORTANT: Lubricate the fuel drain hose with J 36850 or equivalent to aid in hose insertion and removal. Do not use an unapproved lubricant.

4. Use an air operated pump device in order to drain the fuel into an approved gasoline container.
5. Simultaneously twist and pull in order to remove the J 45004 from the fuel tank.
