Rust Flakes on Floor Carpet/Rust on Front Seat Adjuster Assembly (Remove Rust From Front Seat Adjuster Assembly and Paint Front Seat Adjuster Assembly with Brush-On Rust Preventive Paint)

Models:
2005-2006 Cadillac STS

Condition

Customers may comment on rust flakes on the floor carpet of the vehicle. Customers may also state that the rust flakes soil the shoes of rear seat occupants.

Cause

This condition may be caused by rust on the front driver's side and passenger's side seat adjuster assembly.

Correction





Remove the front seats from the vehicle. Remove rust from the front seat adjuster assembly with Scotch-Brite(TM) General Purpose Pad Maroon, P/N 051131-07447 (or equivalent). Paint the front seat adjuster assemblies with a black, brush-on rust preventive paint such as Rust-Oleum(R) (or equivalent).

1. Remove the driver's side and passenger's side front seats from the vehicle. Refer to Seat Replacement- Bucket in SI.

2. Place the front seats on top of a workbench that has been covered with a drop cloth.

3. Prepare the seats for rust removal and painting.

3.1. Wrap cloth or plastic around the seat back, seat cushion, armrest, head restraint, and seat trim.

3.2. Mask and tape the bottom of the seat with cloth or plastic. Do not cover the front seat adjuster assemblies with a cloth or plastic wrap.

3.3. Place a drop cloth between the seat frame and the front seat adjuster assembly.





Important:
Wipe affected areas of the front seat adjuster assembly with a clean, dry cloth after performing Step 4.

4. Remove rust from the front seat adjuster assemblies with Scotch-Brite(TM) General Purpose Pad Maroon, P/N 051131-07447 (or equivalent).

5. Prime the rusty areas with one coat of Rust-Oleum Rusty Metal Primer(R) (or equivalent) using a nylon paint brush.

6. Apply black, brush-on Rust-Oleum(R) (or equivalent) rust-preventive paint to surface of front seat adjuster assemblies. Follow directions and dry times indicated on the paint can.

7. Remove the protective cloth or plastic from the seat back, seat cushion, armrest, head restraint, and seat trim.

8. Remove the drop cloth or plastic between the seat frame and the front seat adjuster assembly.

9. Install the front seats in the vehicle. Refer to Seat Replacement- Bucket in SI.
