DTC P1831 or P1832

DTC Descriptor
This diagnostic procedure supports the following DTCs:
^ DTC P1831 Pressure Control (PC)/Shift Lock Solenoid Control Circuit Low Voltage
^ DTC P1832 Pressure Control (PC)/Shift Lock Solenoid Control Circuit High Voltage

Diagnostic Fault Information

Important: Always perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle prior to using this diagnostic procedure. Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview

Circuit/System Description
The transmission control module (TCM) high side driver 2 is located inside of the control solenoid (w/body and TCM) valve assembly and is not serviced separately. The High side driver 2 provides the voltage for the TCM pressure control solenoids and shift solenoids. This fault is handled inside the TCM and no external circuits are involved.

Conditions for Running the DTC

DTC P1831
^ The engine speed is greater than 500 RPM.
^ Ignition voltage is between 8 - 18 volts.
^ High side driver 2 is enabled.
^ DTC P1831 has not failed this ignition.

DTC P1832
DTC P1832 has not failed this ignition.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

DTC P1831
The TCM detects an internal open or short to ground in the high side driver 2 for 3 out of 5 seconds.

DTC P1832
The TCM detects an internal short to voltage on the high side driver 2 circuit for 3 out of 5 seconds.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

DTC P1831
^ DTC P1831 is a Type A DTC.
^ The TCM turns OFF all high side drivers.
^ The TCM turns OFF all solenoids.
^ The TCM commands maximum line pressure.
^ The TCM freezes transmission adaptive functions.
^ The TCM commands the TCC OFF.
^ The TCM allows the vehicle to operate in transmission protection mode.

DTC P1832
DTC P1832 is a Type C DTC.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC
^ DTC P1831 is a Type A DTC.
^ DTC P1832 is a Type C DTC.

Circuit/System Testing
1. Clear the DTC and operate the vehicle under the conditions for running and setting the DTC.
2. Observe the High Side Driver CKT Status parameter. Does not reset.
3. If it displays Open, Short to Ground, Short to Voltage, or the DTC resets, replace the control solenoid (w/body and TCM) valve assembly. Refer to Control Module References for replacement, setup, and programming. Programming and Relearning
