Lower Control Arm Replacement
Tools Required
J 42129 Wheel Hub Remover
Removal Procedure
1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
2. Remove the tire and wheel.
3. Remove the stabilizer shaft link lower retaining nut.
4. Disconnect the stabilizer link from the lower control arm.
5. Remove the rear wheel drive shaft nut.
6. Install J 42129 to the wheel bearing/hub.
7. Using J 42129 disengage the wheel drive shaft from the rear wheel hub and bearing.
8. Support the lower control arm using a jack.
9. Remove the lower shock mounting bolt.
10. Remove the lower control arm to knuckle mounting bolt.
11. Remove the lower control arm to frame mounting bolt and nut (1).
12. Separate the lower control arm from the knuckle.
13. Lower the jack.
14. Remove the rear coil spring and the lower control arm.
Installation Procedure
1. Install the rear coil spring and the lower control arm to jack.
2. Raise the jack until lower control arm and rear coil spring is in position in the frame.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice.
3. Install the lower control arm to frame mounting bolt and nut (1).
Tighten the nut (1) to 150 N.m (111 lb ft).
4. Install the lower control arm to knuckle mounting bolt.
Tighten the bolt to 175 N.m (129 lb ft).
5. Install the lower shock mounting bolt.
Tighten the bolt to 150 N.m (111 lb ft).
6. Install a new rear wheel drive shaft nut.
Tighten the nut to 160 N.m (118 lb ft).
7. Connect the stabilizer shaft link to the lower control arm.
8. Install the stabilizer shaft link retaining nut.
Tighten the nut to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).
9. Lower the jack.
10. Install the tire and wheel.
11. Lower the vehicle.
12. Check the wheel alignment. Refer to Measuring Wheel Alignment.
