Air Conditioning Compressor Replacement



Compressor Replacement (LS2)

Tools Required

J 39400-A Halogen Leak Detector

Removal Procedure

1. Recover the refrigerant. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging.
2. Remove the air cleaner assembly.
3. Remove the radiator.
4. Remove the condenser.
5. Remove the drive belt.
6. Remove the A/C drive belt.
7. Loosen the upper A/C compressor mounting bolts.
8. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
9. Remove the front air deflector.




10. Disconnect the electrical connector (5) from the compressor.
11. Remove the screw for the electrical connector mounting bracket.
Necessary for clearance during the compressor removal.




12. Remove the suction line bolt at the compressor.
13. Disconnect the suction line from the compressor.
14. Remove and discard the O-ring seals.




15. Remove the discharge line bolt at the compressor.
16. Disconnect the discharge line from the compressor.
17. Remove and discard the O-ring seals.




18. Remove the compressor mounting bolts (1-4).
19. Remove the A/C hose support bracket to oil pan bolt.
20. Lower the vehicle.
21. Rotate the compressor. Remove the compressor from the vehicle.
22. Replace the desiccant bag if the following conditions exist.

* Color of PAG oil is brown or black
* Presence of foreign substances

23. If you are replacing the compressor, balance the compressor oil. Refer to Compressor Oil Balancing.

Installation Procedure

1. Remove the screw for the electrical connector mounting bracket.
2. Install the upper A/C compressor mounting bolts (1-4) to the compressor.




3. Install the A/C compressor.
4. Install the upper compressor mounting bolts finger tight.
5. Raise the vehicle.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice.

6. Install the lower A/C compressor mounting bolts.

Tighten the bolts to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).

7. Install the electrical connector mounting bracket to the compressor.
8. Install the screw for the electrical connector mounting bracket.

Tighten the bolts to 2 N.m (17 lb in).




9. Install the new O-ring seals to the line fittings.
10. Install the suction line to the compressor.
11. Install the suction line bolt to the compressor.

Tighten the nut to 9.8 N.m (87 lb in).




12. Install the new O-ring seals to the line fittings.
13. Install the discharge line to the compressor.
14. Install the discharge line bolt to the compressor.

Tighten the nut to 9.8 N.m (87 lb in).




15. Connect the electrical connector (2).
16. Install the A/C hose support bracket to oil pan bolt.

Tighten the nut to 9.8 N.m (87 lb in).

17. Install the front air deflector.
18. Lower the vehicle.
19. Tighten the upper front compressor mounting bolt.

Tighten the bolt to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).

20. Install the A/C drive belt.
21. Install the engine drive belt.
22. Install the condenser.
23. Install the radiator.
24. Install the air cleaner assembly.
25. Evacuate and recharge the refrigerant system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging.
26. Leak test the fitting of the repaired or reinstalled component using the J 39400-A.
