Fuel Hose/Pipes Assembly Replacement
Fuel Hose/Pipes Assembly Replacement
Removal Procedure
Caution: In order to reduce the risk of fire and personal injury observe the following items:
* Replace all nylon fuel pipes that are nicked, scratched or damaged during installation, do not attempt to repair the sections of the nylon fuel pipes
* Do not hammer directly on the fuel harness body clips when installing new fuel pipes. Damage to the nylon pipes may result in a fuel leak.
* Always cover nylon vapor pipes with a wet towel before using a torch near them. Also, never expose the vehicle to temperatures higher than 115°C (239°F) for more than one hour, or more than 90°C (194°F) for any extended period.
* Apply a few drops of clean engine oil to the male pipe ends before connecting fuel pipe fittings. This will ensure proper reconnection and prevent a possible fuel leak. (During normal operation, the O-rings located in the female connector will swell and may prevent proper reconnection if not lubricated.)
1. Relieve the fuel system pressure. Refer to Fuel Pressure Relief.
2. Clean the fuel and evaporative emission (EVAP) pipe connections and areas surrounding the connections prior to disconnecting the connections in order to avoid possible contamination of the fuel and/or EVAP system.
3. Disconnect the fuel feed pipe (1) quick connect fitting at the fuel rail.
4. Disconnect the EVAP line (2) quick connect fitting at the EVAP canister purge valve.
5. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
6. Loosen the fuel/EVAP pipe retainer bolt (1).
7. Disconnect the fuel feed rear pipe quick connect fitting (1) from the chassis fuel line.
8. Disconnect the chassis EVAP line quick connect fitting (1) from the EVAP canister.
9. Drill out the rivets (5) securing the retainer (2) to the underbody.
10. Disconnect the retainers (3, 4 and 1) from the underbody.
11. Remove the fuel/EVAP lines from the vehicle and place on a suitable work surface.
12. Remove the fuel line from the retainers.
Installation Procedure
1. Install the fuel line to the retainers.
2. Position the fuel/EVAP lines to the vehicle underbody.
3. Connect the retainers (3, 4 and 1) to the underbody.
4. Install NEW rivets (5) securing the retainer (2) to the underbody
5. Connect the chassis EVAP line quick connect fitting (1) to the EVAP canister.
6. Connect the fuel feed rear pipe quick connect fitting (1) to the chassis fuel line.
7. Position the retainer to the front of dash.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice.
8. Tighten the fuel/EVAP pipe retainer bolt (1).
Tighten the bolt to 6 N.m (53 lb in).
9. Lower the vehicle.
10. Connect the EVAP line (2) quick connect fitting at the EVAP canister purge valve.
11. Connect the fuel feed pipe (1) quick connect fitting at the fuel rail.
12. Connect the negative battery cable.
13. Perform the following procedure in order to inspect for leaks:
1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF for 2 seconds.
2. Turn OFF the ignition for 10 seconds.
3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
4. Inspect for fuel leaks.
14. Install the fuel injector sight shield.
