Steering Column Trim Covers Replacement (Power Tilt)

Removal Procedure

Caution: Refer to SIR Caution.

1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling.
Caution: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution.

2. Disconnect the battery negative cable.
3. Remove the steering wheel.
4. Remove the knee bolster.
5. Remove the gap hider.




6. Remove the retaining screws (4) from the lower steering column trim cover.
7. Disconnect the closeout trim cover from the lower trim cover.
8. Disconnect the electrical connector for the power tilt and telescopic switch.
9. Remove the electrical connector for the telescopic switch from the lower trim cover.




10. Remove the retaining screw (2) from the upper steering column trim cover (1).




11. Lift the upper trim cover to gain access to the lock cylinder access hole.
12. Using a bent tip awl, insert the tip into the access hole.




13. Turn the ignition lock cylinder to the START position.
14. Using the bent tip awl push down on the ignition lock cylinder retaining pin.
15. Release the ignition lock cylinder to the RUN position and remove the lock cylinder.
16. Remove the upper trim cover.
17. Remove the closeout trim cover from the upper trim cover.

Installation Procedure




1. Install the upper steering column trim cover (1) to the closeout trim cover.
2. Install the upper trim cover (1) to the steering column.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice.

3. Install the retaining screw to the upper trim cover.

Tighten the screw to 1.5 N.m (13 lb in).

4. Install the ignition lock cylinder.




5. Install the lower steering column trim cover (2) and ensure that the tabs on the lower trim cover engage with the tabs on the upper trim cover (1). Snap the covers together.
6. Connect the lower trim cover to the closeout trim cover.
7. Install the retaining screws to the lower trim cover.

Tighten the screws to 3 N.m (27 lb in).

8. Install the gap hider.
9. Install the knee bolster.
10. Install the steering wheel.
11. Connect the battery negative cable.
12. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling.
