A/T, Interior - Rattle/Buzz From Dash Area

TECHNICAL

Bulletin No.: 08-07-30-043A

Date: October 27, 2008

Subject:
Tick or Buzz Type Noise From Center of Instrument Panel Area When TCC is Applied (Install Transmission Range Selector (Shift) Cable Dampener)

Models:
2007-2009 Cadillac DTS

Supercede:

This bulletin is being revised to provide an updated picture for the dampener location. Also, the labor time has been reduced due to the fact that installation no longer requires complete cable removal. Please discard Corporate Bulletin Number 08-07-30-043 (Section 07 - Transmission).

Condition

Some customers may comment on a tick or buzz type noise coming from the center of the instrument panel area when the torque converter clutch (TCC) engages.

Cause

This condition may be due to normal TCC solenoid pulsation migrating into the passenger compartment by the range selector (shift) cable.

Correction

First, verify that the noise occurs with TCC engagement using the Tech 2(R). If the noise occurs with the application of the TCC, remove the transmission range selector (shift) cable from the transmission lever and bracket following the published SI procedure and install a dampener, P/N 20778626, to the cable as shown below.

Important:
Some early built 2007 vehicles may already have a dampener on the cable. If the noise is still present, it may be due to the dampener making contact with surrounding components. In this case, reposition the cable or dampener to eliminate the contact.
