Steering Knuckle Replacement (AWD)
Removal Procedure
Notice: The ball stud must not rotate during disassembly or reassembly. Hand tools must be used to keep the ball stud from rotating. If air tools are used and the stud is allowed to rotate, damage to the ball stud and/or stud mounting hole may occur.
Notice: Do not free the ball stud by using a pickle fork or a wedge-type tool. Damage to the seal or bushing may result.
1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
2. Remove the tire and wheel.
3. Remove the wheel bearing/hub.
4. Remove the outer tie rod from the steering knuckle.
5. Remove the brake hose bracket to steering knuckle retaining bolts.
6. Remove the upper control arm ball stud from the steering knuckle retaining nut.
7. Remove the lower control arm ball stud from the steering knuckle.
8. Remove the steering knuckle.
Installation Procedure
1. Install the steering knuckle to the lower control arm ball stud.
2. Install a new lower control arm ball stud retaining nut.
3. Install the upper control arm ball stud to the steering knuckle.
4. Install a new upper control arm ball stud retaining nut.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice.
5. Install the brake hose bracket to the steering knuckle retaining bolts.
Tighten the bolts to 14 N.m (10 lb ft).
6. Connect the outer tie rod to the steering knuckle. Refer to Rack and Pinion Outer Tie Rod End Replacement (LY7).
7. Install the wheel bearing/hub.
8. Install the tire and wheel.
9. Lower the vehicle.
