Engine Front Cover Replacement

Removal Procedure

1. Drain the cooling system.
2. Remove the air cleaner assembly.
3. Remove the accessory drive belts.
4. Remove the accessory drive belt tensioners.
5. Remove the accessory drive belt idler pulleys.
6. Remove the water pump pulley.
7. Remove the water outlet housing.
8. Remove the radiator hose and the heater hose from the thermostat housing. position the hoses aside.
9. Remove the crankshaft balancer.




10. Remove the engine front cover bolts.
11. Remove the engine front cover.




12. Remove and discard the engine front cover gasket.




13. Remove the oil pump drive to crankshaft balancer friction washer.
14. Clean and inspect the engine front cover.

Installation Procedure




1. Install the oil pump drive to crankshaft balancer friction washer.




2. Place a small amount of sealant at the split line of the upper and lower crankcases (1). Refer to Sealers, Adhesives, and Lubricants for the correct part number.




3. Place the NEW engine front cover gasket over the crankcase dowel pins.




4. Place a small amount of sealant at the engine front cover gasket pad area located on top of the split line of the upper and lower crankcases (1). Refer to Sealers, Adhesives, and Lubricants for the correct part number.




5. Place the engine front cover in position on the crankcase.
6. Apply the thread locking compound to the threads of the engine front cover bolts. Refer to Sealers, Adhesives, and Lubricants for the correct part number.
7. Install the engine front cover retaining bolts.





Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice.

8. Tighten the engine front cover bolts in the sequence shown.

Tighten the engine front cover bolts in proper sequence to 15 N.m (11 lb ft).

9. Install the crankshaft balancer.
10. Install the radiator hose and the heater hose to the thermostat housing.
11. Install the water outlet housing.
12. Install the water pump pulley.
13. Install the accessory drive belt idler pulleys.
14. Install the accessory drive belt tensioners.
15. Install the accessory drive belts.
16. Install the air cleaner assembly.
17. Fill the cooling system.
