Indicator/Warning Message Description and Operation

ACCESSORY MODE ACTIVE

If there are no vehicle messages to display in the DIC when the ignition is in ACC, ACCESSORY MODE ACTIVE is displayed in the DIC.

CHANGE ENGINE OIL NOW

The instrument panel cluster (IPC) illuminates the CHANGE ENGINE OIL NOW message in the driver information center (DIC) when the engine control module (ECM) determines that the engine oil needs to be changed. The ECM sends a serial data message to the IPC requesting the display of the message. After the oil is changed, reset the engine oil monitor. Refer to GM Oil Life System Resetting.

CHANGE ENGINE OIL SOON

The instrument panel cluster (IPC) illuminates the CHANGE ENGINE OIL SOON message in the driver information center (DIC) when the engine control module (ECM) determines that the engine oil needs to be changed soon. The ECM sends a serial data message to the IPC requesting the display of the message. After the oil is changed, reset the engine oil monitor. Refer to GM Oil Life System Resetting.

CHECK ENGINE

The instrument panel cluster (IPC) illuminates the malfunction indicator lamp control (MIL) telltale when the engine control module (ECM) detects a malfunction in the engine emission system. The MIL indicates that an emission related malfunction has occurred and vehicle service is required. The MIL telltale is hardwired to the ECM and the ECM will ground the MIL control circuit when it wants the indicator illuminated in the IPC.

DOOR AJAR (Driver/Passenger)

The driver information center (DIC), illuminates the LEFT DOOR AJAR or RIGHT DOOR AJAR indicator when the body control module (BCM) detects that one of the doors is open. The IPC receives a serial data message from the BCM indicating the door ajar status. If this message is displayed and the vehicle speed is greater than 4.8 km/h (3 mph), a chime will sound.

ICE POSSIBLE

The driver information center (DIC) illuminates the ICE POSSIBLE message when the ambient air temperature drops below 2°C (36°F). When the temperature rises above 5.5°C (42°F) the ICE POSSIBLE message turns off. The IPC receives a serial data message indicating the ambient air temperature from the HVAC module.

Km/h and MPH Indicator(s)

km/h
- The instrument panel cluster (IPC) illuminates the km/h indicator when the IPC detects that metric units have been selected from the DIC switch.

MPH
- The IPC illuminates the mph indicator when the IPC detects that English units have been selected from the DIC switch.

LOW FUEL

The instrument panel cluster (IPC) displays the LOW FUEL message in the driver information center (DIC) when the ECM detects that the fuel level is less than a pre-determined value. The IPC receives a serial data message from the ECM indicating the fuel level.

LOW OIL LEVEL

The instrument panel cluster (IPC) illuminates the LOW OIL LEVEL message in the driver information center (DIC) when the engine control module (ECM) detects a low engine oil level condition, and the engine oil level switch/sensor signal circuit is high. The IPC receives a serial data message from the ECM requesting the display of the LOW OIL LEVEL message.

LOW OIL PRESSURE

The instrument panel cluster (IPC) illuminates the LOW OIL PRESSURE message in the driver information center (DIC) when the ECM detects a low engine oil pressure. The IPC receives a serial data message requesting display of the message from the ECM.

OVER SPEED WARNING (Gulf States Export Only)

The instrument panel cluster (IPC) displays the OVER SPEED WARNING message in the driver information center (DIC) when the vehicle speed is greater than 120 km/h (74.6mph).

SERVICE VEHICLE SOON

The driver information center (DIC) displays the SERVICE VEHICLE SOON message in the DIC when the BCM/ECM detects certain malfunctions that is not emissions related like the ABS system failure or the system power mode failure. The IPC receives a serial data message requesting display of the message from the BCM/ECM.

SHIFT TO PARK

The SHIFT TO PARK message displays in the DIC when the vehicle is turned off and the transmission range is not in PARK. The IPC receives a serial data message requesting the display of the SHIFT TO PARK message from the BCM.
