High Intensity Discharge Headlamp Starter/Arc Tube Replacement



HIGH INTENSITY DISCHARGE HEADLAMP STARTER/ARC TUBE REPLACEMENT

REMOVAL PROCEDURE

1. CAUTION: The high intensity discharge system produces high voltage and current. To reduce the risk of severe shocks and burns:
- Never open the high intensity discharge system ballast or the arc tube assembly starter.
- Never probe between the high intensity discharge system ballast output connector and the arc tube assembly.

NOTE:
When removing or replacing the arc tube, the arc tube must not contact the side of the headlamp housing or the bulb shield. Damage to the arc tube may result.

Open the hood.

2. Remove the headlamp assembly.




3. Remove the screws (1) attaching the arc tube and starter cover to the headlamp housing.
4. Remove the arc tube and starter cover from the headlamp.




5. Disconnect the electrical connector (1) from the arc tube and starter assembly.




6. Remove the screws (2) attaching the arc tube and starter (1) to the headlamp.
7. Remove the arc tube and starter (1) from the headlamp.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE






1. NOTE: Avoid touching the bulb or letting the bulb come in contact with anything damp. Oil from your skin or moisture on the bulb can cause the bulb to explode when the bulb is turned on. If either comes in contact with the bulb, clean the bulb with alcohol or a suitable degreaser and wipe the bulb dry.

Install the arc tube and starter (1) to the headlamp.

2. NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice.

Install the screws (2) that attach the arc tube and starter to the headlamp.

Tighten the screws to 2 N.m (18 lb in).




3. Connect the electrical connection (1) to the arc tube and starter.

4. IMPORTANT: Ensure the arc tube and starter cover is properly installed and sealed to the headlamp in order to avoid water intrusion in the headlamp assembly.

Install the arc tube and starter cover.




5. Install the screws (1) attaching the arc tube and starter cover to the headlamp.

Tighten the screws to 2 N.m (18 lb in).

6. Install the headlamp.
7. Close the hood.
