Removal Procedure

Important: When performing the following procedure, use only hand tools to remove and install the drain and fill plugs.







1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle (Service and Repair) .
2. Reposition the underbody insulation as necessary to gain access to the fill plug.
3. Remove the fill plug (6) using the DT-48371 .




4. Remove the drain plug (8).
Important: Ensure that an approved drain pan is used when draining the transfer case.



5. Allow the transfer case to drain completely.



Installation Procedure





1. Apply sealant GM P/N 12378470, (Canadian P/N 10952622), or equivalent to the threads of the drain plug.
Notice: Component Fastener Tightening Notice (Component Fastener Tightening Notice) .


2. Install the drain plug (8).

Tighten the drain plug to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).





3. Fill the transfer case to the bottom of the fill plug hole with Mobil LT fluid GM P/N 88861950, (Canadian P/N 88861951).
4. Install the fill plug (6).

Tighten the fill plug hand tight plus 1.25 turns using the DT-48371 .

5. Lower the vehicle.
