Differential Replacement



Differential Replacement

Removal Procedure

1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle (Service and Repair) .
2. Remove the tires and wheels. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (Service and Repair) .
3. Remove the rear propeller shaft. Refer to Rear Propeller Shaft Replacement (RWD) (Service and Repair)Rear Propeller Shaft Replacement (AWD) (Service and Repair) .
4. Drain the rear differential, if needed. Refer to Lubricant Change (Removal and Replacement) .
5. Remove the left and right wheel drive shaft from the rear differential.

* For the left whjeel drive shaft, refer to Front Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement - Left Side () .
* For the right wheel drive shaft, refer to Front Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement - Right Side () .

6. Place a transmission jack stand under the rear differential assembly.
7. Secure the rear differential assembly to the transmission jack stand.




8. Remove the two front differential mounting bolts (1).




9. Remove the rear mounting bolt (1) and nut (2) for the differential.




10. Lower the differential (1) and remove from the vehicle.



Installation Procedure





1. Install the rear differential assembly (1) in the rear frame.





Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice (Fastener Notice) .

2. Install the rear differential mounting bolt (1) and nut (2).

Tighten the rear differential mounting bolt (1) to 175 N.m (129 lb ft).





3. Install the rear differential front mounting bolts (1).

Tighten the rear differential mounting bolt (1) to 175 N.m (129 lb ft).

4. Remove the transmission jack stand.
5. Install the left and right rear wheel drive shafts.

* For the left whjeel drive shaft, refer to Front Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement - Left Side () .
* For the right wheel drive shaft, refer to Front Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement - Right Side () .

6. Install the rear propeller shaft. Refer to Rear Propeller Shaft Replacement (RWD) (Service and Repair)Rear Propeller Shaft Replacement (AWD) (Service and Repair) .
7. Fill the differential with fluid, if needed. Refer to Lubricant Change (Removal and Replacement) .
8. Install the tires and wheels. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (Service and Repair) .
9. Remove the support and lower the vehicle.
