Condition

Some customers may comment about reduced AM and/or FM radio reception.

Cause

This condition may be caused by urethane and/or urethane primer that is too close to, or extends over, the silver printed antenna on the rear window glass.

Correction

Important
Perform the following inspection and repair before re-seating any connections associated with the antenna/radio system and removal/replacement of the antenna modules, radio unit (including coaxial cables, power signal, and ground wires).

1. Remove the necessary trim to access the rear window glass perimeter. Refer to Quarter Upper Trim Panel Replacement and Rear Window Panel Trim Replacement in SI.

2. Inspect the glass antenna perimeter. The minimum clearance for the urethane/primer to any silver antenna printing on the surface of the glass must be 11 mm (0.43 in) or greater. If the urethane/primer extends over the silver antenna printing (1), replace the glass. Refer to Rear Window Replacement (Sedan) is SI.

Important
Use extreme caution when eliminating the excess urethane/primer from the glass. Tape the silver antenna printing on the glass with blue painter's tape. Care must be taken not to damage, cut or scrape any of the silver antenna printing or blackout on the glass, as well as not to damage/disrupt any electrical connections attached to the glass.

3. If the urethane/primer does not extend over the silver antenna printing, remove any urethane/primer along the glass perimeter within 11 mm (0.43 in) of the silver antenna printing.
4. Before reassembly, measure the distance between the urethane/primer and the silver printing on the glass to verify the minimum clearance of 11 mm (0.43 in).
5. Install all trim that was removed in Step 1. Refer to Quarter Upper Trim Panel Replacement and Rear Window Trim Panel Replacement in SI.
