Interior - A-Pillar Moulding Loose

TECHNICAL

Bulletin No.: 09-08-110-003

Date: March 10, 2009

Subject:
Driver and/or Passenger Side Windshield Pillar Garnish Molding Loose, Gap at Top (Remove Excess Foam, Install New Fasteners)

Models:
2008-2009 Cadillac DTS

Condition

Some customers may comment that the driver and/or passenger side windshield garnish molding is loose, has a gap at the top or is falling off.

Cause

This condition may be caused by excessive acoustic foam in the pillar structure at the pillar garnish molding mounting holes. This may prevent the garnish molding retaining clips from fully engaging.

Correction

Important:
Do not replace the windshield garnish molding assembly if it is not affected. The upper tether fastener and the middle fastener are available as service parts. Replace only the fasteners as instructed in the bulletin procedure.

Use the following steps to inspect and correct this condition.

1. Remove the pillar garnish molding. Refer to Windshield Pillar Garnish Molding Replacement in SI.

2. Completely remove the upper tether fastener from the vehicle and inspect the mounting holes for excessive foam.

3. If excessive foam is present, use a small screwdriver, or similar tool, to clear the hole. Verify that the hole has adequate clearance to allow the clips to fully engage.

Important:
Always install new fasteners. Do not re-use the old fasteners.

4. Install a new upper tether fastener and a new middle retainer onto the
existing windshield pillar garnish molding.

5. Reinstall the pillar garnish molding. Refer to Windshield Pillar Garnish Molding Replacement in SI.

6. Verify the fit and security of the molding installation.
