Rack and Pinion Outer Tie Rod End Replacement
Removal Procedure
Tools Required
J 24319-B Steering Linkage and Tie Rod Puller
1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle (Service and Repair) .
2. Remove the tire and wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (Service and Repair) .
3. Remove the outer tie rod retaining nut (2).
4. Loosen the jam nut (2) on the inner tie rod (1).
5. Using J 24319-B remove the outer tie rod from the steering knuckle.
6. Remove the outer tie rod (3) from the inner tie rod (1).
Installation Procedure
1. Install the outer tie rod (3) to the inner tie rod (1).
2. Do not tighten the jam nut (2).
3. Install the outer tie rod (2) to the steering knuckle (1).
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice .
4. Install the outer tie rod retaining nut (2).
* Tighten the outer tie rod retaining nut (2) to 47 N.m (35 lb ft).
* Tighten the outer tie rod retaining nut (2) up to 1/6 additional turn, or 70 N.m (52 lb ft) maximum.
5. Install the tire and wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (Service and Repair) .
6. Lower the vehicle.
Important: Ensure that the rack and pinion boot is not twisted or puckered during toe adjustment.
7. Adjust the front toe. Refer to Front Toe Adjustment (Service and Repair) .
