DTC Descriptor
DTC B1474 02
- Exterior Passenger Door Handle Switch Circuit Short to Ground
Diagnostic Fault Information
Circuit/System Description
The front exterior passenger door handle switch signal circuit provides inputs to the remote control door lock receiver (RCDLR) and the passenger door module (PDM) when the front exterior passenger door handle switch is activated. This input allows the PDM and RCDLR to detect a door open request. The PDM and RCDLR provide voltage to the front exterior passenger door handle switch via the right front door handle switch signal circuit. When the right front door handle is activated, the switch closes and the voltage signals from the PDM and RCDLR are pulled to ground.
Conditions for Running the DTC
DTC B1325 Battery Voltage Out of Range, must not be current.
Conditions for Setting the DTC
The RCDLR detects the front exterior passenger door handle switch signal circuit is shorted to ground or closed for more than 180 continuous seconds.
Action Taken When the DTC Sets
The RCDLR ignores inputs from the front exterior passenger door handle switch until the switch changes state.
Conditions for Clearing the DTC
* The condition responsible for setting the DTC no longer exists.
* A history DTC will clear once 40 consecutive malfunction free ignition cycles have occurred.

Circuit/System Verification
Ignition ON, observe the scan tool ext. psgr. door handle switch parameter while operating the front exterior passenger door handle. The reading should toggle between ACTIVE and INACTIVE.
Circuit/System Testing
1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the front exterior passenger door handle switch assembly.
2. Ignition OFF, scan tool OFF, test for less than 10.0 ohms between the ground circuit terminal 6 and ground.
• If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.
3. Ignition ON, verify the scan tool door handle switch parameter displays INACTIVE.
• If not the specified value, test the signal circuit terminal 5 for a short to ground. If the circuit tests normal, replace the PDM.
4. Verify the appropriate scan tool ext. door handle switch parameter located in the RCDLR miscellaneous inputs list displays INACTIVE.
• If not the specified value, test the appropriate signal circuit for a short to ground. If the circuit tests normal, replace the RCDLR.
5. Install a 3A fused jumper wire between the signal circuit terminal 5 and ground. Verify the scan tool door handle switch parameter displays ACTIVE.
• If not the specified value, test the signal circuit terminal 5 for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the PDM.
6. Verify the appropriate scan tool ext. door handle switch parameter located in the RCDLR miscellaneous inputs list displays ACTIVE.
• If not the specified value, test the appropriate signal circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the RCDLR.
7. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the front exterior passenger door handle switch assembly.
Repair Instructions
Perform the Diagnostic Repair Verification (Verification Tests) after completing the diagnostic procedure.
* Front Side Door Outside Handle Replacement (Service and Repair)
* Control Module References (Programming and Relearning) for PDM or RCDLR replacement, setup, and programming
