Steering Column Tilt Head Replacement

Tools Required

J 23653-SIR Steering Column Lock Plate


Removal Procedure

Caution: Refer to SIR Caution (SIR Caution) .
1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling (Service and Repair) .
2. Remove the SIR coil. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Coil Replacement (Removal and Replacement) .




3. Using J 23653-SIR remove the bearing retainer (1).




4. Remove the shaft lock shield assembly (1).
5. Remove the turn signal cancel cam assembly (2).
6. Remove the upper bearing spring (3).



Installation Procedure





1. Install the upper bearing spring (3).
2. Install the turn signal cancel cam assembly (2).
3. Install the shaft lock shield assembly (1).




4. Install the bearing retainer onto J 23653-SIR .
5. Using J 23653-SIR depress the shaft lock shield assembly.
6. Push the bearing retainer (1) into place.
7. Remove J 23653-SIR from the steering shaft.
8. Install the SIR coil. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Coil Replacement (Removal and Replacement) .
9. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling (Service and Repair) .
