DTC Descriptors
DTC B2880 01
- Tilt Position Sensor Circuit Short to Battery
DTC B2880 06
- Tilt Position Sensor Circuit Short to Ground or Open
DTC B2880 5A
- Tilt Position Sensor Circuit Plausibility Failure
DTC B2880 61
- Tilt Position Sensor Actuator Stuck
Diagnostic Fault Information
Circuit/System Description
The memory seat module - driver determines the position of the steering column based on inputs received from position sensor built into the tilt actuator. The memory seat module - driver supplies a 5-volt reference and a ground to the sensor and monitors the column position via the tilt sensor signal circuit.
Conditions for Running the DTC
Ignition ON
Conditions for Setting the DTC
This DTC will set when the tilt sensor signal circuit voltage is less than 0.25 volt or greater than 4.75 volts for 2 seconds.
Action Taken When the DTC Sets
The memory seat module - driver will not allow the tilt actuator to operate during memory recall and/or easy exit operations. The actuator will still operate from the tilt/telescope switch.
Conditions for Clearing the DTC
* A current DTC will clear when a fault is no longer present.
* A history DTC will clear after 100 malfunction-free ignition cycles.

Circuit/System Verification
Ignition ON, observe the scan tool Tilt Sensor parameter. The reading should be between 0.25 and 4.75 volts.
Circuit/System Testing
1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the tilt actuator.
2. Ignition OFF, test for less than 1.0 ohm resistance between the low reference circuit terminal E and ground
• If greater than the specified range, test the low reference circuit for open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the memory seat module - driver
3. Ignition ON, test for 4.8-5.2 volts between the 5-volt reference circuit terminal D and ground.
• If less than the specified range, test the 5-volt reference circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the memory seat module - driver
• If greater than the specified range, test the 5-volt reference circuit for a short to voltage. If the circuit tests normal, replace the memory seat module - driver
4. Verify the scan tool Tilt Sensor parameter is greater than 4.75 volts.
• If less than the specified range, test the signal circuit terminal C for a short to ground. If the circuit tests normal, replace the memory seat module - driver.
5. Install a 3A fused jumper wire between the signal circuit terminal C and the low reference circuit terminal A. Verify the scan tool Tilt Sensor parameter is less than 0.25 volt.
• If greater than the specified range, test the signal circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the memory seat module - driver.
6. If all circuits tests normal, test or replace the tilt actuator.
Repair Instructions
