Steering Column Trim Covers Replacement
Removal Procedure
Caution: Refer to SIR Caution (SIR Caution) .
1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling (Service and Repair) .
Caution: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution (Battery Disconnect Caution) .
2. Disconnect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (Service and Repair) .
3. Remove the steering wheel. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement (Steering Wheel Replacement) .
4. Remove the knee bolster. Refer to Driver Knee Bolster Panel Replacement (Service and Repair) .
5. Remove the retaining screws (4) from the lower steering column trim cover.
6. Disconnect the closeout shroud from the lower trim cover.
Notice: Avoid damaging the steering column electronic lock harness by gently removing the plugs installed in the I/P beam. Do NOT twist, pull, bend, cut, or incorrectly route the harness. Damage to the harness will require replacement of the entire electronic lock.
7. Disconnect the electrical connector for the power tilt and telescopic switch.
8. Remove the electrical connector for the telescopic switch from the lower trim cover.
9. Remove the retaining screw (2) from the upper steering column trim cover (1).
10. Remove the upper trim cover.
11. Remove the closeout shroud from the upper trim cover.
Installation Procedure
1. Install the upper steering column trim cover (1) to the closeout shroud (3).
2. Install the upper trim cover (1) to the steering column.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice (Fastener Notice) .
3. Install the retaining screw to the upper trim cover.
Tighten the screw to 1 N.m (9 lb in).
4. Install the lower steering column trim cover and ensure that the tabs (2) on the lower trim cover engage with the tabs on the upper trim cover. Snap the covers together.
5. Connect the lower trim cover to the closeout shroud.
6. Install the retaining screws to the lower trim cover.
Tighten the screws to 3 N.m (27 lb in).
Notice: Avoid damaging the steering column electronic lock harness by gently removing the plugs installed in the I/P beam. Do NOT twist, pull, bend, cut, or incorrectly route the harness. Damage to the harness will require replacement of the entire electronic lock.
7. Install the knee bolster. Refer to Driver Knee Bolster Panel Replacement (Service and Repair) .
8. Install the steering wheel. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement (Steering Wheel Replacement) .
9. Connect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (Service and Repair) .
10. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling (Service and Repair) .
