B2996
DTC B2996 or B3001
Diagnostic Instructions
* Perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle (Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview) prior to using this diagnostic procedure.
* Review Strategy Based Diagnosis (Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview) for an overview of the diagnostic approach.
* Diagnostic Procedure Instructions (Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview) provides an overview of each diagnostic category.
DTC Descriptor
DTC B2996 00
- Left Rear Door Ajar Circuit
DTC B3001 00
- Right Rear Door Ajar Circuit
Diagnostic Fault Information
Circuit/System Description
The body control module (BCM) monitors the rear door ajar circuits to indicate the status of the rear doors. When the respective door is opened, the door ajar signal circuit is switched to ground by the door lock ajar indicator switch, the BCM detects the drop in voltage in the circuit and then communicates this status to the instrument panel cluster (IPC) via a serial data message. The IPC, upon receipt of this serial data message, will illuminate the appropriate ajar message in the driver information center (DIC) and when the transaxle is shifted out of PARK, the DIC will also send a serial data message to the radio to activate the door ajar audible warning.
Conditions for Running the DTC
The system voltage is 9-18 volts.
Conditions for Setting the DTC
The BCM detects a short to ground in a rear door ajar circuit for longer than 10 minutes.
Action Taken When the DTC Sets
The appropriate door ajar indicator is continuously illuminated.
Conditions for Clearing the DTC
* The DTC will be current for as long as the fault is present.
* When the fault is no longer present, the DTC will be a history DTC.
* A history DTC will clear after 50 ignition cycles.

Circuit/System Verification
Ignition ON, observe the scan tool Right Rear Door Ajar Sw. and Left Rear Door Ajar Sw, parameters while opening and closing each rear door. The parameters should change between Door Closed and Door Ajar.
Circuit/System Testing
1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the appropriate rear door ajar switch.
2. Ignition ON, verify the scan tool Right Rear Door Ajar Sw. or Left Rear Door Ajar Sw. parameter is Door Closed.
• If not the specified value, test the signal circuit terminal listed below for a short to ground:
* LR door latch switch terminal 4
* RR door latch switch terminal 1
• If the circuit tests normal, replace the BCM.
3. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the door ajar switch.
Component Testing
1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the appropriate door ajar switch.
2. Test for infinite resistance between the signal terminal and the ground terminal with the door ajar switch in the open position listed below:
* LR door latch switch terminal 4 and 6
* RR door latch switch terminal 1 and 3
• If not the specified value, replace the door ajar switch.
3. Test for less than 2 ohms between the signal terminal and the ground terminal with the door ajar switch in the closed position listed below:
* LR door latch switch terminal 4 and 6
* RR door latch switch terminal 1 and 3
• If greater than the specified range, replace the door ajar switch.
Repair Instructions
Perform the Diagnostic Repair Verification (Verification Tests) after completing the diagnostic procedure.
* Rear Side Door Latch Replacement (Service and Repair)
* Control Module References (Programming and Relearning) for BCM replacement, setup and programming
