TECHNICALBulletin No.: 08-05-26-002
Date: December 03, 2008
Subject:
Brake System Warning Light On, Service Park Brake Message Displayed in DIC, DTCs C0561/C0558 Set (Reprogram Electronic Park Brake (EPB) Module)
Models:
2009 Cadillac CTS (Export RHD Only)
Equipped with Electronic Park Brake (RPO J77)
Condition
Some customers may comment that the brake system warning light is illuminated while the vehicle is being driven.
In addition, there may be some cases where the automatic electronic parking brake (EPB) release feature is disabled. When the automatic release is disabled, the EPB warning telltale will be illuminated. The driver must use the EPB switch to release the park brake. After the park brake is released using the switch, the driver information center (DIC) message "Service Park Brake" is displayed and the warning telltale remains illuminated until the next EPB switch apply. After the next EPB switch apply the system returns to normal operation. If the parking brake is not released, driving with it on can overheat the brake system and cause premature wear or damage to brake system parts.
After further investigation, a scan tool may reveal DTCs C0561.71 and/or C0558.5A set in history or as current.
Cause
This condition may be caused by a software and/or calibration anomaly within the electronic parking brake (EPB) module.
Correction
Revised electric park brake (EPB) software and calibration have been developed to address this condition. Technicians are to reprogram the Electronic Park Brake (EPB) Control Module using the Service Programming System (SPS) with the latest software and calibration available on TIS2WEB. As always make sure your Tech 2(R) is updated with the latest software version.
