DTC Descriptor
DTC B3849 00
- Exterior Door Handle Switch Circuit
Diagnostic Fault Information
Circuit/System Description
The exterior door handle switch signal circuit provides inputs to the driver door module (DDM) when the exterior door handle switch is activated. This input allows the DDM to detect a door open request. The DDM provides voltage to the exterior door handle switch via the front door handle switch signal circuit. When the front door handle is activated, the switch closes and the voltage signals from the DDM are pulled to ground.
Conditions for Running the DTC
Battery voltage is between 9-16 volts.
Conditions for Setting the DTC
The DDM detects the driver exterior door handle switch signal circuit is shorted to ground for greater than 180 seconds.
Action Taken When the DTC Sets
The DDM ignores inputs from the driver exterior door handle switch.
Conditions for Clearing the DTC
* The DTC will be current for as long as the fault is present.
* When the fault is no longer present, the DTC will be a history DTC.
* A history DTC will clear after 50 ignition cycles.

Circuit/System Verification
With the doors unlocked, open the driver door by using the driver exterior door handle. The driver door should release and open when using the exterior door handle.
Circuit/System Testing
1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the driver exterior door handle switch.
2. Ignition ON, test for greater than 9 volts between the signal circuit terminal B and ground.
• If less than the specified range, test the signal circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the ciruict tests normal, replace the DDM.
3. Test for greater than 9 volts between the signal circuit terminal E and ground.
• If less than the specified range, test the signal circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the ciruict tests normal, replace the DDM.
4. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the driver exterior door handle.
Component Testing
1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the driver door handle switch.
2. Test for infinite resistance between the signal terminal E and the ground terminal F with the switch in the open position.
• If not the specified value, replace the driver door handle switch.
3. Test for less than 2 ohms between the signal terminal E and the ground terminal F with the switch in the closed position.
4. If greater than the specified range, replace the driver door handle switch.
Repair Instructions
