Steering Linkage Outer Tie Rod Replacement (Rear Wheel Drive)

J 24319-B - Steering Linkage and Tie Rod Puller
Removal Procedure
1. Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (Service and Repair).
2. Loosen the steering linkage inner tie rod nut (1).
3. Remove the steering linkage outer tie rod nut.
Discard the nut.
4. Disconnect the steering linkage outer tie rod from the steering knuckle using the J 24319-B - Puller.
Note: Note the number of complete turns necessary in order to remove the steering linkage outer tie rod.
5. Remove the steering linkage outer tie rod from the steering linkage inner tie rod.
Installation Procedure
Note: Install the steering linkage outer tie rod the same number of complete turns as noted in the removal.
1. Install the steering linkage outer tie rod to the steering linkage inner tie rod.
2. Install the steering linkage outer tie rod to the steering knuckle.
Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution (Fastener Caution).
3. Install a NEW steering linkage outer tie rod nut and tighten to 35 Nm (26 lb ft).
4. Tighten the steering linkage outer tie rod nut an additional 110 degrees.
5. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (Service and Repair).
6. Adjust the front toe. Refer to Wheel Alignment - Steering Wheel Angle and/or Front Toe Adjustment (Service and Repair).
7. Tighten the steering linkage inner tie rod nut to 65 Nm (48 lb ft).
